M. Hyland SAQ team



Professor Michael Hyland

From the late 1980s Prof Hyland has worked as a health psychologist focusing on respiratory disease. He has constructed several outcomes for use in this area. His research in respiratory medicine includes studies on adherence to medication, its relation to outcomes, the management of severe asthma in relation to new treatments and the extra-pulmonary symptoms. Prof Hyland works at the University of Plymouth as a Professor of Research (profile here).


Dr Joseph Lanario

A Research Fellow in Respiratory Health with an interest in Health Psychology and its application in respiratory disease. Dr Lanario carries out research into patients’ perspectives of their healthcare and how best to take these into account in clinical practice. He is employed by the University of Plymouth (profile here).

M. Masoli SAQ Team



Dr Matthew Masoli

Dr Masoli is a Respiratory Consultant at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. He has a particular interest in patients with severe and difficult to control asthma. He leads the severe asthma service which supports specialist asthma services for the Southwest Peninsula.

R. Jones SAQ Team


Professor Rupert Jones

A retired GP and respiratory specialist, Prof Jones works on national and international research, policy and education initiatives relating to chronic lung diseases and dementia. His current research interests are in global health. Working with many international collaborators, he has run global health projects including Horizon 2020 and MRC/Wellcome relating to lung disease in many countries in Europe, Africa, Central and South East Asia.
